Baby monitors are traditionally used to keep an eye on your young children when they go to bed at night. The slightest whisper or attempt at crying and you will hear them and be able to go up and tend to them to get them to doze off again.
But when Christmas comes you will be especially glad of having a baby monitor in use – especially if your children are slightly older, perhaps of two or three years in age for example. This is the kind of age when they are likely to start getting excited on Christmas Eve, when they start to have some concept of what Christmas is all about, and of course the idea that Santa will be visiting!
Christmas Eve is a time when the adults want to have some peace and quiet once the kids are safely in bed. But it certainly gives you peace of mind to have the baby monitor on so you can tell what is going on upstairs. This is especially true if you are using the time to wrap up the last few of the kids’ presents. The last thing you want is for the kids to suddenly appear in the doorway as you are wrapping up their gifts for them!
In this sense it can be good to get a baby monitor to use to keep an ear on the children once they have gone to bed. Even if they are slightly past the age where you would use a baby monitor it could pay dividends to get a cheap model for this purpose. In any case if you have young babies as well as toddlers or older children you will need to have a baby monitor to help keep an eye on them at this time of year.
It is the kind of thing that could get overlooked at Christmas, as it is traditionally a hectic time of year with plenty to do and lot to remember as well. The more you can plan ahead and ensure you have some quiet time to wrap gifts in (as well as forewarning of the kids getting up to come downstairs!) the better you will manage.
One baby monitor – it might not be at the top of your Christmas list but it could be one of the best things you buy at this seasonal time of year.
