Do You Need A Different Baby Monitor If You Have Twins?

Wednesday April 14, 2010

Buying a baby monitor can be a difficult task if you aren’t sure what type you need. But if you have more than one baby in the house – let’s say if you have just had twins for example – it can be even trickier.

For starters you have double the number of babies to keep an eye – and an ear – on. This means you have to be sure that whatever baby monitor you go for is going to serve your purpose well enough.

Some parents opt to buy two baby monitors rather than trying to find one that will do the job adequately. For example you can get two video monitors and train one on each cot, so you can always see what is going on. This is an additional expense of course, but it is one that many parents would agree is worthwhile.

There are also more advanced monitors that enable you to keep track of what is going on in more than one location. This would be good if the twins don’t go down to sleep at exactly the same time each day. For example you might take one of them up to their cot and end up with the other one sleeping on the sofa while you are in the kitchen catching up on chores. This is safe to do while they are at a young age and cannot roll, and you can use the monitor to check on them both – even though they are on separate floors of the house.

Some parents also consider buying a monitor that has a mat with it as well. This helps to monitor how much the baby is moving, and it can provide additional peace of mind when you have twins.

This is particularly worth noting since twins have a tendency to arrive earlier than single babies. The reasons for this are obvious, but you want to ensure your babies have a safe few months in the world just after they are born.

In the end we all have our own ways of keeping an eye on our babies. But when you have two to think about it really does pay to get a baby monitor that will cater for all your needs. Shop around carefully and go for something that has multiple births in mind rather than just individual babies.
