It would seem that you can. Baby monitors are wonderful for making sure your baby is sleeping soundly, but they tend to have a limited range. And what do you do if you visit someone’s home and baby decides to doze off – and there isn’t a baby monitor to hand?
The answer seems to be to use your iPhone. Provided you have one there are a number of different applications that have been created with parents of a young baby in mind. And one of them is a baby monitor.
As with most good ideas, it is actually very simple and straightforward. The main thing you need to do is to decide which phone number you want to nominate as the one to ring if your baby wakes up.
But hang on – how is that going to work? After all your baby isn’t going to phone you to tell you they are awake!
What happens is this. You tell it which number you would like your iPhone to call if your baby should wake up. All you have to do then is to put your iPhone somewhere safe close to your baby. The application is programmed so that if your baby starts to wake up, or indeed makes any type of noise at all, your iPhone will call the number you selected. This could be another mobile phone or a landline. And when you pick the phone up you will be able to hear them.
So for example, let’s say you have a standard baby monitor but you have just discovered it is broken and you cannot fix it. It’s Sunday evening and there are no shops open until tomorrow morning. What would you do?
The answer is now simple, thanks to this application. Just download it, and use your iPhone coupled with your home phone number to tide you over until the following day – or whenever you get to buy a new baby monitor.
It is a great invention, and a wonderful new use for the iPhone. It isn’t a free application unfortunately, but the price is exceedingly low. When we looked it up online it was priced in dollars and you would get change out of five dollars.
Some people have said that this application is perfect for going away too. Why worry about taking the baby monitor with you if you can use this instead? If your partner has a mobile phone all you need to do is start the application on your iPhone, key in your partner’s mobile phone number as the one to call when your baby wakes up, and off you go.
It might seem to be a strange use for your iPhone, but whoever thought of it has clearly got children! It has helped many parents cope with situations that would otherwise have been quite tricky, and it keeps baby safe as well. What better use for an iPhone could there be?
