Choosing a new baby monitor isn’t the easiest task in the world. There are so many of them around that opting for the right one for you could be extremely difficult.
One of the types you will see on the market is called a plug in baby monitor. This is exactly what it sounds like – you simply plug it into the wall in your baby’s room. The parent unit is then plugged in elsewhere in the house, depending on where you are at the time.
But are they worth buying?
It can be seen that they are not as practical in many ways as battery powered ones that you can take anywhere. Obviously the unit that needs to go in your baby’s room will stay put. But if you are constantly moving around the house, you will be going out of earshot of the monitor at regular intervals. This means a cordless monitor would be better for you. Otherwise you will find yourself constantly unplugging the unit and plugging it in elsewhere. It doesn’t take long to do, but it is easy to forget if baby is quiet.
But that doesn’t mean that this type of baby monitor doesn’t have its uses. For example, not everyone lives in a huge house. If you are in a small flat and you have a plug socket in a central position that can be heard from every other room, then this could be the best unit to buy.
You also don’t have to worry about batteries, since many of these units don’t require them. We’ve all had the worry of running around trying to find replacement batteries and failing, and with this baby monitor you don’t have to go through that experience.
However, if there was a power cut you wouldn’t be able to use the monitor at all. So you do need to think about all eventualities before you make your purchase. After all, this is an important piece of equipment to help you stay in touch with baby while they are sleeping.
They can also be useful though if you tend to get interference with a cordless baby monitor. Not everyone can use these because of this aspect, so in this case a plug in monitor could be a real saviour.
So think carefully before automatically buying a cordless monitor. A plug in one could be just as useful.
